This week we’ve been continuing to prepare for digging down into the ground on the northern side of the railway bridge, putting temporary infrastructure in place so that we can safely work below ground level on the 16x 40-metre-long concrete piles that we installed there previously.
Today we're installing 18 long metal sheets into the embankment on the eastern side of the railway bridge, just down from the main station building (see images above). These have been installed as a temporary measure to support the embankment while we work alongside. We’re aware this work is disruptive. Sorry if it has disturbed you.
Once the temporary infrastructure is in place, we will excavate around the concrete piles, to crop them. Reinforced steel will then be installed. The tops of these piles will be concreted to form caps which will spread the load of the bridge and the walkway/cycleway structure that will sit on top of them (see images below).
